Kowhai Park Pirate Ship

A favourite amongst youngsters, the Kowhai Park Pirate Ship was beginning to look a little worse for wear and in need of a refit before being deemed unseaworthy.

A joint task force of Wanganui Rotary clubs was press ganged into service and with much forethought and preparation they set about restoring the old girl.  Over the course of a fine weekend in February the group toiled feverishly rebuilding much of the superstructure, fitting a new gangway and scramble net, replacing the bowsprit and finishing off with a striking new paint job.

In next to no time and, with much pomp and pageantry, the iconic Pirate Ship was recommissioned and ready to be sailed by a new crew of eager youngsters.
